Little Stay in Lynchburg: A Work Trip with Fun Food (Part Three)
Alex here! I had an opportunity to travel to Lynchburg for a few days for work, and took another opportunity for myself to try some new food while there. If you haven’t yet, be sure to check out the first and second part of this blog, where I review RA Bistro and Bootleggers during my first few nights here.
On my last day of the work trip, the facility I was working at catered our lunches. While I wasn’t able to indulge in the Jersey Mikes on the first day, and could only eat the toppings off the Papa Johns pizza on the second day, I wasn’t going to miss out on County Smoak on my last day. This meal was a very pleasant surprise and I was very happy when I heard they’d ordered this for us. The food was provided in catering trays, but boy it looked amazing. I had a large portion of the pulled pork and a very large piece of chicken. I didn’t try the mac and cheese but it looked amazing and I heard nothing but positive feedback on it.
The pulled pork had a great smoky flavor, was very juicy and tender, and was cooked to perfection. Though it was not needed,, I added some of the house made vinegar-based barbecue sauce to it which was very good and added a nice extra something to the pork. The chicken was also cooked to perfection, and had some amazing seasoning and glaze on top of it. The pieces of chicken were massive and we needed a bigger knife to portion these things out. Unfortunately, I did not visit the restaurant location, but County Smoak did an awesome job on the catering order and delivered some delicious food to us. When it comes to barbeque, I am a bit of a snob and typically find anything that is not ZZQ underwhelming. This barbecue was delicious and I’m sad they’re not located in Richmond so I could visit them more often. (I think they’re serious contenders wit ZZQ.)
Overall, this was my favorite meal from this visit to Lynchburg and it will be hard to go back and eat elsewhere knowing this place is around!
